Hospitals, Clinics, and Pharmacies

The Suisse Clinic, Addis Ababa
The Suisse Clinic waiting area

The Korean Hospital comes recommended and I have been there at night with a sick kid. It’s not the most modern but the staff seemed professional and I was happy with the service. However, I would recommend that you register immediately with a clinic, who will then coordinate and advise you when you or your family members get ill.

The best clinics in Addis for expats are the Nordic Clinic and the Suisse Clinic (best for children). It is highly advisable to register yourself with one as you arrive as it will make it a lot easier to access treatment when you get ill.

The Nordic Clinic is open 24/7 but does not have full time paediatric service so, out of hours, children might be better off at the Korean Hospital. The Suisse Clinic is apparently available out of hours for registered patients only, but I’m not sure exactly how that works.

Apparently there is also a UN clinic for UN staff.

Pharmacies

I have been recommended the Gishen Pharmacy, Washington Healthcare Pharmacy, and Milo Pharmacy (but Milo is miles away) but I haven’t tried any of them yet. If you do, please let me know! Apparently SAS Pharmacies is recommended by the Nordic clinic.
